Gay Street Inn is an 1850s farmhouse on the edge of town, with mature trees and views of the mountains from its half-acre. Earlier owners added a sunroom and innkeeper’s quarters to the original house. The current innkeepers, Jay and Kevin, recently have restored and redecorated the Inn, maintaining a casual sense of comfort in a fine country house. On your arrival, enjoy complimentary wine or another beverage while you settle in and explore the Inn’s amenities, which include:
Library
The Library is a wainscoted first-floor room with wood-burning fireplace, and comfortable furniture for reading, chess, or cards. In the evenings, a bottle of port or a dessert wine and chocolates or homemade sweets are served here – enjoy them in the company of other guests or take them to your room. |
|
Sunroom
The Sunroom overlooks our yard and flower beds and is drenched in morning light. Breakfast is served here (the tile floor has radiant heat, so feel free to wear your slippers to table), and the room is available throughout your stay for game-playing, visiting or just plain sitting. Ask us about holding a bridal shower or wine-tasting here. |

Front Porch
The Front Porch is an old-fashioned American original, with comfortable chairs and a peaceful western view of Jenkins Mountain and Shenandoah National Park. Perfect for morning coffee and complimentary evening cocktails, not to mention an afternoon nap – because Gay Street ends in front of our house, it is always quiet here. |

Gardens
Our gardens, like most, are works in progress, and they include the plants you’d expect to find in a country garden – daffodils, tulips, irises and lilies, as well as mature pine trees, aged boxwoods and other less common species (our boxwood trimmings each year end up in holiday wreaths sold by local non-profit organizations). Our rear yard is comprised mainly of a large lawn, good for bocce ball, croquet, badminton, horseshoes and similar outdoor pursuits. |

Breakfast
Breakfast at Gay Street is meant to make you feel like family – but family on a holiday. A homemade, hot breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30. The entrée changes daily, but ranges from Grandma Rose’s special buttermilk pancakes to cream cheese-stuffed French toast, smoked Virginia sausage, hams and bacon, egg soufflés, fresh fruit, locally roasted coffee, teas and fresh juices. For those who want to start their day early (or sleep in late), a self-serve continental breakfast also is available between 7:30 and 10:30 – featuring home-baked muffins or rolls, fresh fruit, and coffee and teas. Enjoy the continental breakfast while you read the paper, then join us later for the full breakfast! We will gladly accommodate any special dietary needs with advance notice. |
